Women's Volleyball: Macken, Racevicius named GNAC Players of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced earlier today that both Rivier University senior Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and freshman Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) have been selected as the conference's Player and Rookie of the Week for Women's Volleyball.

This is just the latest honor for the veteran setter as Macken has now been named the GNAC Player of the Week for the third time in her career. She was also named GNAC POTW on 9/6/2016 & 10/16/2017. Macken garnered the honors after leading the Raiders to a 3-1 week and second place finish at the Granite State Challenge. She dished out 9.79 assists per set while scooping up 1.71 digs per set and chipping in with 20 kills and a .471 hitting percentage. Macken highlighted her week with a 50 assist performance in a 3-2 win over Keene State College and a 12.67 assists per set average in the team's 3-0 sweep over Plymouth State University.

Racevicius becomes the first Raiders to be named GNAC Rookie of the Week since current sophomore Julia Zargaj (Groveland, Mass.) was selected on 9/5/2017. She had a stellar week for the 3-1 Raiders as she pounded out 2.38 kills per set while registering 2.88 digs per set. The freshman also totaled nine service aces over her four matches played and highlighted her week with a double-double of 14 kills and 21 digs in the five set win over Keene State.

Rivier, now 4-4 overall on the season, will return to action on Thursday night as they travel to Weston, Massachusetts for their first conference match of the season at Regis College. Game time is set for 7pm.
