Women's Volleyball: Raiders split tri-match at USJ

(West Hartford, Conn.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team continued their dominance within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this afternoon as they swept the University of Saint Joseph before falling to Gordon College in a split conference tri-match hosted by the Blue Jays. Rivier is now 17-9 overall on the year with a 9-2 GNAC mark while USJ slides to 4-18, 0-10 and Gordon improves to 14-10 on the year.

Game One: Rivier University 3, University of Saint Joseph 0 (Final)

The Raiders earned their ninth conference win of 2017 by set scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-21.

Sophomore standout Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) swung to the tune of a .360 hitting percentage on eleven kills with freshman Allison Zagami (Milford, Mass.) providing additional help hammering down six kills. Freshman Katherine Antczak (Salem, N.H.) dimed out 27 assists over the three sets and senior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) collected eight digs. Senior Erin Rosa (Cumberland, R.I.) had a solid afternoon with seven digs and four kills while classmate Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) scooped up six digs.

USJ was paced by Jasmine Buckley's eight kills and 15 digs. Brenna Miller totaled 13 assists as Janell Molina picked up nine digs in the loss.

Game Two: Gordon College 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The Fightin' Scots were victorious by set scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21 in the non-conference affair.

Rivier saw both Dunster and freshman Emma Soucy (Dunbarton, N.H.) lead the team with seven kills while senior Alex Trevains (Litchfield, N.H.) added five kills & a .300 hitting percentage. Antczak once again was the assist leader with 16 and Trevino collected 16 digs along the back line.

Gordon's Mackenzie Hinds a force to be reckoned with as she hammered down a game-high 14 kills and Jacque Fitzgerald swung at a .429 clip with seven kills to lead the team. Ashlyn Gergins provided 31 helpers and Jenny Curtiss patrolled the defensive effort with 20 digs.

Next up for the Raiders will be a home non-conference contest with Brandeis University on Tuesday evening. Game time is set for 7pm.
