Women's Volleyball: Raiders season ends in GNAC Semifinals

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball season came to an end this evening as they fell to the overall #2 seed – Simmons College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals. The loss wraps up the Raiders year with a 20-12 overall record, a 10-2 mark in league play and the #3 seed in the tournament. Simmons will move onto the GNAC Championship to face the top seeded Johnson & Wales University, who are currently undefeated and ranked nationally in the top ten.

The three-set match was taken by the host Sharks with scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20.

Rivier received equal efforts across the court with sophomore Sunny Foglia (Remseburg, N.Y.) leading the team with five kills and five total blocks. Freshman Jillian Rabasco (Nashua, N.H.) and Emma Soucy (Dunbarton, N.H.) each knocked down four kills in the loss. Recently named Rivier Female Student-Athlete of the Month, junior Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) handed out 14 assists while scooping up seven digs and three kills. Sophomore Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) controlled the back line with 12 digs and senior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) closed out her fantastic collegiate career with eleven digs. Senior Alex Trevains (Litchfiled, N.H.) also shined bright in her final match picking up two kills and three total blocks.

Simmons was guided by Jarene Harberts 15 kills and supported by 12 kills from Morgan Weeg. Kenna McCarthy dished out 23 assists on the night with Julia Fusco collecting 12 digs. Alexandra Erk Thompson totaled three blocks, including two block solos in the program's first ever semifinal win.

Season Ending Notes: The Women's Volleyball program has now reached the GNAC Tournament Semifinals for the 16th consecutive time… Trevino wraps up her brilliant four-year career with 1,850 digs – ranking second all-time in program history… This was the 13th straight season that the program had won 20+ games…. Head Coach Craig Kolek is now 418-188 in his career as the Women's Volleyball coach at Rivier (181-34 against the GNAC).
