Women's Volleyball: Raiders finish 3-1 at Granite State Invitational

(Plymouth, N.H. & Keene, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team competed in the 2017 Granite State Challenge this past weekend which was hosted by Plymouth State University (Friday) and Keene State College (Saturday). Rivier went 3-1 over the four games, taking home 2nd place at the annual Challenge. On Friday evening, the Raiders started off competition with a tight 3-2 loss to Keene State before finishing the night defeating New England College in straight sets, 3-0. Rivier used the momentum from Friday night as they won both matches on Saturday, defeating Plymouth State 3-1 and Colby-Sawyer 3-2.

Junior Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) totaled 125 assists in 13 sets played (9.62 as-sists per set average) with 31 digs and 2.5 total blocks over the Raiders' four games. In the team's 3-2 loss against Keene State, the setter tallied 51 assists, 13 digs, 6 kills, and 6 service aces.

Sophomore Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) led the team in kills over the four games, recording 47 kills while managing to put up 36 digs in her 13 sets played. Senior libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) had a great defensive weekend as she scooped up 59 digs.

Rivier (5-3) will return to playing Tuesday the 12th as they take on Newbury College for their first home match of the season. On Saturday September 16 the Women's Volleyball team will open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference play against Lasell College inside the Muldoon followed by a non-conference contest against Rhode Island College. The tri-match will start at 11am.
