Women's Volleyball: Raiders sweep Nighthawks in 2017 Home Opener

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team received an 8-kill effort from freshman Emma Soucy (Dunbarton, N.H.) as they swept the visiting Nighthawks of Newbury College this evening in straight sets. The win improves the Raiders' overall record to 6-3 while the Nighthawks fall to 1-8 on the season.

Rivier was victorious by set scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-10.

Emma Soucy finished with a .800 hitting percentage while classmates Jillian Rabasco (Nashua, N.H.) & Brynn Coleman (Dover, N.H.) finished with a .375 hitting on four kills apiece. Freshman Katherine Antczak (Salem, Mass.) guided the offensive attack with 26 assists while Taylor White and Julianna Byington (Bedford, Mass.) paced the back line defensive effort with six digs each. Rabasco also had seven service aces.

For the Nighthawks, freshman Stephanie Rheaume (Hampton, N.H.) was the kill leader with six and senior Julia Leggett (Longview, Wash.) added four of her own in the loss. Senior Marlen Reynoso (Springdale, Ark.) dished out ten assists and sophomore Mikayla Hicks (Cedar Hills, Texas) tied with Leggett as they each had six digs.

Next up for the Raiders will be a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest with Lasell College on Saturday morning (11am) as they host a tri-match along with Rhode Island College. Newbury will be back in action on Thursday evening as they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7pm.
