Women's Volleyball remains undefeated with wins over Regis and Colby

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team continued to remain undefeated to start the season as they took a pair of non-conference victories from Regis College and Colby College this afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The win is the Raiders' 11th straight as they are now 11-0 in 2016. Regis split their contests in the tri-match to move their record to 1-6 while Colby falls to 0-8.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Regis College 0 (Final)

The Raiders came out swinging in the opening game as they swept Regis by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14.

Senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the way offensively with 9 kills and a .350 hitting percentage to go along with her four total blocks on the defensive side of the net. Classmate Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added seven kills on her .353 hitting percentage with sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) handing out 29 assists. Along the back line, junior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) led the squad with 13 digs as McCormack provided support with 12 digs. Senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) had a solid morning with six kills for Rivier.

The Pride, coached by Rivier graduate Scott Wright '09, was led by Sydney Trusty and Katryna Veasey. The two combined to hammer down 13 kills and collect 16 digs over the three sets played. Both Crystina Lathop and Shay Faber dished out 9 assists apiece and Kayla Nystedt totaled two blocks in the loss.

Game Three: Rivier University 3, Colby College 2 (Final)

The final game of the afternoon saw the Colby College Mules push the host Raiders to a decisive fifth set but Rivier was able to nail down the final three points to secure the win. The Raiders trailing, 2-1 after the third set, rallied back to take the final two. The scores of the five sets were 25-17, 18-25, 24-26, 25-13 and 15-12.

Mott powered the way with her 15 kills and .519 hitting percentage. Right behind her was Silverman who knocked down 13 kills (.409) and recorded five total blocks – three of the solo variety. Macken was outstanding directing the team offense to 52 total kills with 43 assists while collecting 12 digs along the back line. Trevino, the defensive specialist, totaled 17 digs with freshman Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) chipping in with 12 digs of her own. McCormack also had four service aces in the five set win.

Colby received solid efforts from Paige Hanssen and Karolina Serhan. Hanssen led the match with 19 kills and Serhan smashed 14 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Molly Manuel had 27 assists with Mae Sefransky adding an additional 14 helpers. Erin Maidman was in charge of the defensive effort as she amassed 19 digs.

Next for Rivier will be a Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle at Johnson & Wales University. The battle of the undefeateds will take place at 7pm on Wednesday evening down in Providence, Rhode Island. The Wildcats will enter at 10-0 on the season with the Raiders currently at 11-0.
