Women's Volleyball sweeps Tri-Match

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned a pair of wins as they hosted a non conference tri-match with Wellesley College and Regis College at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders took both games in four sets.  

Game One: Rivier University 3, Wellesley College 1 (Final)

The Raiders came out strong to begin the day against Wellesley College as the took care of business in four sets. In the process, the earned their seventh straight win with scores of 25-17, 25-19, 14-25 and 25-16.

Juniors Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.), Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) paced the even offensive attack as they each collected seven kills. Classmate Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) added six kills and Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) provided five kills in the win. Senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) also saw herself add five kills to the total while directing the offense with 31 assists. Sophomores Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) and Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) were the defensive stars as they combined for 31 digs – Trevino with 18, Soucy had 13. McCormack also recorded double-digit digs with 11.

Wellesley was led by Yasmine Reece, who had the game high of 16 kills and a .423 hitting percentage to along with her 12 digs. Michelle Li provided some help with 25 assists and Stephanie Hoang led the team with 14 digs. Brooke Fieldman had 9 kills in the loss for the Blue.

Game Two: Wellesley College 3, Regis College 0 (Final)

Wellesley was able to rebound from the first game loss as they swept Regis College by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18. The split sees the Wellesley overall record go to 4-6 on the season.

Reece once again was the star for the Blue as she recorded a .615 hitting percentage with a team high 9 kills. Kaite Yan had a solid game two with five kills and 10 digs. Hoang also collected 10 digs – team high – and both Maddie Koh and Li shared the assist lead with 12.

Regis saw Sydney Trusty record the team high of 8 kills while Rachel Bartels was right behind her with 7 kills. Crystina Lathrop registered 18 assists and Emily DeBarros paced the defensive attack with 7 digs.

Game Three: Rivier University 3, Regis College 1 (Final)

The Raiders brought home the sweep as they defeated Regis College in the final match of the day's tri-match at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Rivier won the four set match by scores of 25-13, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-21.

Silverman totaled 12 kills and a .529 hitting percentage as she appeared in three sets. Freshman Taylor White (Dunstable, Mass.) tabulated a .750 hitting percentage with three kills and a dig while classmate Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had 17 assists and 7 digs. Mott finished with 9 kills and O'Reilly had 20 assists. Soucy contributed a team high 11 digs and McCormack had seven kills and nine digs.

Regis' Graciella Molinari led the Pride with 9 kills and 9 digs in the loss with Kaley Schulte providing 16 assists. Nicole Connolly had a solid game with six kills and seven digs.

The wins propel the Raiders' overall record to 8-3, winners of eight consecutive games. Rivier will return to action on Wednesday night as they travel up to the University of Southern Maine for a 7pm non-conference match up.
