Women's Volleyball takes two from Emerson and Regis

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team improved to 5-4 overall this afternoon as they defeated both Emerson College and Regis College in a non-conference tri-match at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders swept Emerson 3-0 in the first game of the day before earning a 3-1 win over Regis in the final game. Emerson grinded out a four set victory over Regis in the day's middle game.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Emerson College 0 (Final)

In the season's home opener for the Raiders, the home didn't disappoint as they defeated an old Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Emerson College in three straight sets.

Sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered a .474 hitting percentage to go along with her team high 10 kills to pace the offensive attack. Classmate Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) provided support with 9 kills and junior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 7 kills for Rivier. Junior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) dished out 33 assists and freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) was the defensive leader with 19 digs. Junior Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, R.I.) contributed 9 digs and four service aces in the win.

Emerson was led by Annie Hall who had 7 kills and Brittany Schoellkropf who added 6 kills. Elaine Nichols (23 assists) and Sam Harton (17 digs) also shined for the Lions in the game.

Game Three: Rivier University 3, Regis College 1 (Final)

Before the start of the third game, the Rivier Volleyball family unveiled the Championship Banners from last season. The Women's program was the 2013 GNAC Champions and the Men's program followed by taking the 2014 GNAC title.

As for the game, the Raiders received a pair of double-kill efforts from sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) and Silverman to climb above .500 with a four set win over Regis. The victory ups the Rivier overall record to 5-4 while Regis falls to 7-5.

Mott was outstanding along the net as she hammered down a game high 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .400. Silverman added a .500 hitting percentage and 10 kills. Freshman Jordan Donohue (Meredith, N.H.) was also a bright spot offensively as she had 7 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. O'Reilly once again directed the team's 47 kill attack as she had 38 assists. Sweeney was the dig leader with 13 and Trevino added 10 in the win. Both Silverman and Donohue recorded solo blocks with Silverman totaling four in the contest.

Regis also had a pair of student-athletes who reached double figures in kills. Both Sydney Trusty and Nicole Connolly had 10 kills for the visitors with Kristina del Rey providing an additional 7 kills. Tina Lathrop registered 33 assists and Marilia Ramos was the game's dig leader with 16.

Rivier University will enjoy two days off before they welcome Newbury College to the Muldoon for a non-conference contest on Tuesday night (7pm).
