Pisecco, Raiders roll past Simmons 3-0

(Boston, MA) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team defeated the Simmons College Sharks this evening, 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference competition at Simmons' Holmes Sports Center. It was the Raiders' eighth consecutive victory by a 3-0 score over a GNAC opponent. Rivier now stands at 18-5 overall on the season. They are the top team in the GNAC with a 8-0 record and have yet to drop a set to a GNAC opponent.

The scores of tonight's contest were 25-18, 25-12 and 25-18.

Sophomore Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) paced the offensive attack for Rivier as she had 12 kills and one error on 19 attacks, good for a .579 hitting percentage. Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added 11 kills and classmate Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) laced 7 kills in the win. Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) contributed yet another 30 assist game as the team's primary setter while senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) led the defense with 14 digs. O'Reilly also was solid defensively with 11 digs.

Simmons, who is now 6-2 in the GNAC and 8-19 overall, were led by senior Megan Chamberlin (Milford, MA). Chamberlin led all Sharks with six kills on ten attempts and no errors, a .600 hitting percentage.

Next up for the Raiders will be the Quad Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Rivier will open up with UMass-Boston at 7pm on Friday night before battling MIT (11am) and Western New England College (2pm) on Saturday. Simmons returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Clark University for a tri match with Amherst College at 11 AM and 1 PM.
