Amaral gets to 1,000 digs but Raiders fall to the Owls, 3-0

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball fought hard in three straight sets but found themselves on the losing side after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Granite State foe, Keene State College this evening inside of the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Owls, won by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.

The Raiders were led offensively by senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) who laced 12 kills on 28 attempts for a .357 hitting percentage. Freshman Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, NY) contributed 8 kills of her own while fellow rookie Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, MA) connected for 7 kills. Sophomore setter Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) added 34 assists and a trio of Raiders had double-digit digs. Senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) collected 13 digs as she surpassed the 1,000 dig mark for her career. Both O'Reilly and McCormack had 12 and 11 digs respectively.

Keene State was powered by Anglea Silveri, who matched Peacock for the game high with 12 kills. Samantha Branning recorded 7 kills and Christine Hadfield finished with 5 kills for the Owls. Alexis Michal was the team leader with 21 assists and Kaitlin Boyer registered 19 digs for the game high.

The lost drops the Raiders to 7-4 on the season while Keene State improves to 7-5 in 2013.

Next up for Rivier will be a Saturday double-header with Becker College. The Hawks will visit the Muldoon Gymnasium as game one is slated to begin at 11am. Keene State will also be back in action on Saturday for a pair of games at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. The Owls will battle Coast Guard before taking on Clark.
