Women's Volleyball goes 2-1 over the Weekend in the Raider Invitational

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team captured their 6th and 7th wins of the young season as they defeated both Babson College and Newbury College in the Raider Invitational held on Friday and Saturday at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders also fell to Salve Regina University in the first game on Saturday but handed the Seahawks just their second set loss in SRU's 9 game win streak.

Friday Night – Rivier 3, Babson 2 (Final)

In what turned out to be a back-and-forth battle, the Raiders were able to win the final two sets to earn the win over a tough Babson College squad by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 11-25, 25-18 and 15-11.

Freshman Molly McCormick (Ballston Lake, NY) led the charge as she connected for 12 kills while senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added 11 kills and 4 total blocks. Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) was brilliant as she had yet another 43 assist game and senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) contributed with 11 digs. Sophomore Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) added 9 kills in the winning effort.

Saturday Morning – Salve Regina 3, Rivier 1 (Final)

The Raiders came out on fire to win the first set 25-17 as they handed the Seahawks just their second set loss in 2013. However, Salve Regina remained undefeated (9-0) as they powered past Rivier over the next three sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-16.

Peacock and senior Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) combined for 21 kills and both registered a .250 hitting percentage. Boucher had 10 kills while Peacock added 11 and 2 total blocks. O'Reilly contributed with 38 assists and Amaral was terrific along the defensive line with 30 digs.

The Seahawks would then drop their first game of the season as Babson was able to take straight sets in the 12pm game of the Invitational.

Saturday Afternoon – Rivier 3, Newbury 0 (Final)

Seven different Raiders recorded kills as Rivier swept the Nighthawks in straight sets – 25-15, 25-11, 30-28.

Peacock, McCormick and freshman Chelsea Hussey (Lebanon, CT) each recorded 7 kills on the afternoon while another freshman, Dana Mott (Medway, MA) added five kills and a .375 hitting percentage. O'Reilly finished with just 35 assists and sophomore Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) added 22 digs. Hussey was also terrific at the service line as she had six aces over the three sets.

Rivier, with an overall record of 7-3, will host Keene State in their next contest on Thursday night inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7pm.
