LYNDON, VT. – The Rivier University women's soccer team kicked off the 2019 season on the right foot as they were able to secure a 2-0 non-conference win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in the season opener for both squads.

It was a tightly contested affair as both teams drew even at 0-0 until the 82nd minute. After a penalty occurred inside the 18, junior Ashley Glynn (Salem, N.H.) converted on a penalty kick to give the Raiders the 1-0 advantage. Minutes later senior Brittany Fletcher (Tewksbury, Mass.) received a pass from sophomore Jaida Mitchell (Raymond, N.H.) and knocked it home in the 87th minute to add insurance to the Rivier lead.

Senior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) stopped all four shots she faced to record the 4th shutout of her career.

Victoria McCormack made three saves on three shots as she started the first 45 minutes in net for the Hornets before giving way to Lauren Young, who made six saves on eight chances.

Rivier will return to action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Salem State University for a 7pm non-conference kickoff. NVU-Lyndon won't return to the pitch until next Sunday (9/8) when they welcome Bay Path University to the green mountain state.
