Women's Soccer: Martin, Raiders tripped up by USJ

(West Hartford, Conn.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team suffered a 5-1 setback this afternoon on the road at the University of Saint Joseph in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss sends the Raiders to 3-7 overall and a 2-6 mark against the conference while the Blue Jays improve to 5-5-1 overall, 3-4-1 in the GNAC.

The Blue Jays scored three first half goals with Rylee Snow knocking home the first goal in the 26th minute. Seconds later Rileigh Luba recorded her first goal of the season in the 27th minute and Sarah Palko capped the scoring in the 30th minute.

Palko would then net her second of the game in the 49th minute to make it a 4-0 contest. Rivier then finally got on the board and broke the shutout as sophomore Madison Wescott (Tewksbury, Mass.) converted on a pass from junior Keara Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 64th minute. It was Wescott's second goal of the season and second in three games.

USJ then rounded out the 5-1 final with Amanda Ghent's goal in the 75th minute.

Rivier junior keeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made three saves on the afternoon while USJ's Megan Ricci and Lindsey Montminy made two saves (one each) in the win.

Next up for the Raiders will be another Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Wednesday night as they host Colby-Sawyer College at 7pm.
