Women's Soccer: Raiders fall to Norwich, 2-0 in rain-filled contest

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped their first contest of the season tonight as they fell 2-0 to visiting Norwich University at a rain-soaked Raider Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss moves the Raiders' overall record to 1-1 and are now 0-1 in the conference while the Cadets remain unbeaten at 5-0 and 2-0 GNAC.

It was a tightly contested match until Norwich broke the scoreless tie in the 30th minute. Senior Danielle Johnson (Groton, Mass.) was able to corral a loose ball inside the 18 and knock it home for her first goal of the season. Six minutes later, freshman Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) chased down a long through ball from sophomore Sydney Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) and was able to finish into the back of the net for all the scoring in the game.

Rivier had a chance to get within one as time ran down in the second half. Junior Keara Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed a shot on net from about 25 yards out that glanced off the crossbar.

Junior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made four saves on the evening while Norwich sophomore Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) stopped both shots she saw on net.

The Raiders were outshot 11-5 on the night while also seeing Norwich hold an 11-5 advantage on the corners.

Next up for the Raiders will be a trip to Boston to battle with Simmons University on Wednesday night. Norwich will host Anna Maria College in their next scheduled contest on Friday afternoon.
