Women's Soccer: Raiders bested by Johnson & Wales

(Providence, R.I.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening on the road at Johnson & Wales University by a 7-0 final score. The Raiders are now 1-5-1 overall on the season with a 0-4-1 mark in the conference while the Wildcats remain unbeaten in GNAC play at 5-0-0 and are 8-2-0 on the year.

The game was the tale of two haves for the Raiders as they kept up with the Wildcats through the first 45 minutes. Despite being on the defensive end for most of the half, Rivier was able to limit the angles on most of JWU's 21 shots. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made eight saves in the first half as the team's entered the locker rooms with a scoreless tie.

The second half was not as friendly as the powerful Wildcat offense exploded for all seven goals, beginning with Deja Hursey's eleventh of the season in the 47th minute.

Goodspeed finished the night with 14 saves while her counterpart, Collen Lynch collected her 8th win.

The Raiders will return home for their next scheduled contest on Saturday afternoon as they host Simmons College in a 1pm GNAC contest.
