Women's Soccer: Wogan nets first career goal; Raiders tie Albertus 2-2

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team earned their first point of the 2017 campaign this evening as they finished a 2-2 double overtime tie against Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field. The draw slides the Raiders' overall record to 1-5-1 (0-3-1 GNAC) while the Falcons remain at .500 with a 3-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 conference mark.

Albertus took the early advantage as freshman Sophia Austin (East Hartford, Conn.) received a thru ball from senior Angelina Picirrillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) and kicked it home at 20:34. It was Austin's 5th goal of the season.

The Raiders would answer back quickly as sophomore Keara Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) banged home a rebound off a shot from junior Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) for her first of the season and knotted things up at one.

10 minutes later, sophomore Katie Wogan (Dunstable, Mass.) was the beneficiary of a free kick from about 30 yards out as she placed it perfectly over the outstretched arms of the Falcon goalkeeper. It was Wogan's first career collegiate goal and it gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead as halftime approached.

Albertus would eventually tie the game at two when junior Tiana Cass (Torrington, Conn.) netted a pass from Picirrillo at 59:52. That would be the last goal scored in the contest as the teams played out the final 50 minutes of action scoreless.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) had another phenomenal night in net as she made five saves. Her counterpart, Albertus junior Lexi Finn (Oakville, Conn.) stopped three of the five shots she faced on net.

The Falcons held the edge in shots (10-7) and corners (7-2) on the evening.

Next up for the Raiders will be another GNAC contest on Wednesday evening as they travel to Providence, R.I. for a 7pm kickoff with Johnson & Wales University. Albertus will also be in conference action as they return to the pitch on Tuesday night at Emmanuel College.
