Women's Soccer: Raiders drop non-conference contest to Nichols, 2-1

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped their first home contest of the season this evening as the visiting Bison of Nichols College took home the 2-1 win in non-conference action at Raider Field. The Raiders slip to 1-1 on the year while Nichols remains undefeated at 2-0.

Nichols took the early lead in the 22nd minute as Ashley Cibotti (Norton, Mass.) knocked home a pass from Lauren MacGray (Norton, Mass.). In the final minutes of the first half, the Raiders answered with freshman Carley Bostwick's (Lowell, Mass.) first career goal. The tie didn't remain for long however as Nichols was able to get the eventual game winner in the final seconds off the foot of Taylor Souza (New Bedford, Mass.).

Sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made two saves on the night in her first career start between the pipes. Nichols' Brooke Downey (Middleboro, Mass.) was successful on six of the seven shots she faced from the Raider offense.

Rivier will return to the pitch on Saturday evening as they travel to Northfield, Vermont for the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest of the season at Norwich University. Nichols will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Coast Guard Academy.
