Women's Soccer blanked by Suffolk, 3-0

(Somerville, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team were shutout on the road this evening as the Suffolk University Rams were able to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, 3-0 at Dilboy Stadium.

It was a tale of two halfs for the Raiders who allowed two Suffolk goals within the first 45 minutes.

Suffolk senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the game's twenty-fourth minute as she took a pass up the field from fellow senior Gabrielle Balestier (Mohnton, Pa.) and broke past the Raiders' defense for her team leading fourth goal of the season.

The Rams would add another goal in the first half at the thirty-four minute mark as junior Katherine Cote (Attleboro, Mass.) built the Suffolk lead to 2-0 when her shot from 15 yards out went in for her third tally of the year.

Rivier would come out strong in the second half putting out 10 shots in the period as a team. They had perhaps their best scoring opportunity of the game at the sixty-one minute mark when senior Mariah Payne's (Concord, N.H.) hit off of the top crossbar.

Sophomore Nicole Hunt (Weymouth, Mass.) would close out the game for Suffolk as she added an insurance goal in the eighty-sixth minute as she converted a feed for Cote to make it a 3-0 score.

Junior Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made five saves in goal for the Rams for her second shutout of the season.

Senior Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, N.H.) made seven saves in goal for Rivier who drop to 2-7-1 on the season.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Wednesday. Rivier will host the Emmanuel College Saints at 7:00pm. Suffolk will host the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats at Dilboy Stadium at 6:00pm.
