Women's Lacrosse: Raiders suffer loss to Fitchburg State,

(Nashua, N.H.)  Rivier University Women's Lacrosse suffers loss to Fitchburg State University at home, 9-4.  

It was Fitchburg's senior Amanda Hem (Lowell, Mass.) who pulled out of the draw control with possession. Seconds later a fould was commited by the Raiders and a free position attempt was awarded to the visitors.  Luckily, senior goalkeeper Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) denied the shot.  However, just seconds later Falcons sophmore Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal to take an early lead. 

Scoring went back and forth the first 10 minutes making for an entertaining start to the season.  At the 25:00 mark, sophomore Dzenana Omerovic (Revere, Mass.) netted the first goal of the season off an assist from grad-student Morghan Linehan (Bedford, N.H.). Minutes later Senior Marin Owens (Brookline, N.H.) rifles one in off of another dish from Linehan.

About a minute and a half later Falcons attacker Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.) equalized after a Raiders turnover, bringing the score to 2-2.  Senior Ashley Leal (Tyngsboro, Mass.) then chipped in to break the tie after Junior Amanda Barton (Pelham, N.H.) came away with possesion from the draw control.  

In the second half Amanda Barton scored the lone goal off of an assist from junior Kayla Phelps (Laconia, N.H.). Barton also lead the game with a game high 7 ground balls, and also tallied 3 draw controls and led the team with shots on goal.  

Falcons goalkeeper tallied 8 saves. While Raiders Captain, Courney Leperriere collecting 10 saves on the evening. 

Next up for the Raiders will be the Cadets of Norwich University on Wednesday, March 13 at 5PM on Raider Field.  The falcons will take a trip down to Port Charlotte, Florida to face off against Carroll University at 10AM.
