Rivier suffers GNAC loss over St. Joseph's College, 17-4

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Lacrosse team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup this afternoon to the visiting Monks of St. Joseph's College (ME), 17-4 at Raider Field this afternoon.  The loss sends the Raiders to 3-7 in the GNAC and an overall record of 3-9.  St Joe's slides to 11-3 and 7-2 in league play.

Junior midfielder Ashley Leal (Tyngsboro, Ma) started the scoring off for the home team less than 2 minutes into the game with a goal from a free position shot. Three minutes later sophomore Dzenana Omerovic (Revere, Ma) scored a goal from ad dish from Junior Marin Owens (Brookline, NH).   

While the Raiders got on the board early, the Monks took control for the remainder of the half.

Junior Goalkeeper Courtney Laperriere (Keene, NH) finished the half with 11 saves and the Raiders defense scooped up 15 ground balls.

Owens was first to get on the board in the second half as she scored an unassisted goal with a player down at the 8:50 mark.  Six minutes later Omerovic scored a goal off a Owens assist.  These two goals closed the scoring out for the home team. 

Monk's sophomore goalie Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) tallied 3 saves on the day. 

Laperriere snagged 17 saves and scooped up 4 ground balls today and still leads the GNAC in saves with a whopping 175 saves and boasts a save percentage of 49.2.

The leading scorer for the Raiders at the end of the regular season is sophomore Amanda Barton with 22 goals and 5 assists.  While Junior midfielder Marin Owens led in assists with 17 and netted 13 goals.  Other point leaders were Dzenana Omerovic with 21 goals and rookie Stephanie Whalen (Litchfield, N.H.) scored an impressive 18 goals in her first season.  Junior Ashley Leal (Tyngsboro, Ma) handed out 6 assists.

The Monks will be back in action at 4PM on Tuesday.  They will close out their regular season schedule against the Lasell College Lasers (11-3, 7-2 GNAC) in Newton, Ma.  The Raiders have completed their regular schedule and have secured the 8th spot for the GNAC playoffs.
