Women's Basketball: Raiders suffer 61-47 setback to Norwich

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team could not overcome a slow start as they fell to visiting Norwich University, 61-47 inside the Muldoon Gymnasium this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 4-13 with a 0-6 mark against the conference while the Cadets improve to 6-12 overall, 2-3 in league play.

Sophomore Cydney Lessard (Derry, N.H.) was the leading scorer for Rivier as she finished with 13 points. Classmate Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) gathered 13 rebounds to lead the team while freshman Heather Ries (Mont Vernon, N.H.) collected 10 rebounds and added eight points in the loss. Junior Catherine Torpey (Melrose, Mass.) shined bright in a reserve effort as she totaled 10 points in her 20 minutes of action.

Norwich was guided by the double-double night of junior Kailynne Frederick (Adams, Mass.), who shot 7-of-16 from the floor on her way to 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Fellow junior Riley Bennett (Hopkinton, N.H.) also finished with 20 points and senior KristieAnn DeSilvio Chelmsford, Mass.) netted seven points for the Cadets.

The Raiders will step outside of conference play when they return to the court on Saturday afternoon. Rivier will travel to Elms College for 1pm non-conference matchup. Norwich will remain in the conference as they get set to host Albertus Magnus College. Game time is set for 3pm.
