Women's Basketball: Motivala, Raiders fall to Smith College

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team fell this evening in the opening night of the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament to the host institution, Smith College 84-34. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 1-3 on the young season while the Pioneers remain undefeated at 2-0.

Freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) led the offensive effort for the Raiders as she totaled 11 points while also leading the team with five rebounds. Sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) also pulled down five rebounds in the loss and sophomore Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) added nine points on the night.

Smith was guided by Katelyn Pickunka, who was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field on her way to the game-high of 21 points. Ashlyn Bohn finished with double-digit rebounds as she collected 10 on the night and Dashelle Gleissner chipped in with nine points. Morgan Morrison shined bright off the bench as she added seven points and seven rebounds in the win.

Rivier will return to the floor tomorrow afternoon in the final day of the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament as they take on Maine Maritime in the consolation game. Game time is slated for 2pm.
