Women's Basketball: Grumblatt nets double-double in home opener

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered a 91-70 setback this evening to visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The non-conference loss moves the Raiders to an overall record of 1-2 while the Leopards earn their first win and are now 1-0 on the season.

Rivier was paced by sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.), who recorded a double-double with the team-high of 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds. Classmate Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) chipped in with 19 points and junior Catherine Torpey (Melrose, Mass.) added 12 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. Freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) provided a spark off the bench as she also did not miss a free throw going 7-for-7 and finished with 12 points.

Four of the five starters for Wentworth finished in double-digits led by freshman Isabella Perez (Homestead, Fla.), who finished with 15 points and seven assists. Junior Kayla Kelly (Boston, Mass.) added 13 points and fellow classmates Erin Morton (Norway, Maine) and Molley Duclos (Greenfield, Mass.) contributed 12 points each in the win. Morton pulled down the team-high of eight rebounds and junior Lryic Campbell (Madisonville, Ky.) dished out seven assists in a reserve effort for the Leopards.

The Raiders will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to western Massachusetts to compete in the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Smith College. Rivier will square off against Smith with tip-off scheduled for 2pm. Wentworth will travel to Brooklyn, New York on Saturday afternoon for a 2:30pm start time at the Pratt Institute.
