Women's Basketball: Raiders suffer OT loss to Johnson & Wales

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered yet another overtime heartbreak; this time to visiting Johnson & Wales University, 88-83 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The loss sends the Raiders to 2-12 overall on the season and 0-4 in the conference. The Wildcats climb to 3-13 overall, 2-1 against the GNAC.

Trailing by two points with less than 4 seconds left, Johnson & Wales freshman Dede Stevenson (Hartford, Conn.) intentionally missed the second free throw attempt and classmate Tara Murphy (Killingworth, Conn.) was able to collect the rebound. Murphy then spun and hit her shot off the glass with 0.5 seconds to force the overtime period.

Rivier senior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led all scorers with 35 points on 13-of-31 shooting while collecting 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. Junior Elizabeth Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) added 19 points and six assists while senior Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) finished with her four consecutive and seventh overall double-double on the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Ciera Clark (Pembroke, N.H.) chipped in eight points off the bench in the loss for Rivier.

The Wildcats were paced by senior Ally Mishol (Longmeadow, Mass.) who totaled 22 points while three other student-athletes reached double figures. Stevenson finished with 16 points on the night with junior Brittney Gallagher (New City, N.Y.) and Murphy compiling 13 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Gabrielle Nicastri (East Greenwich, Conn.) pulled down the team-high of 11 rebounds off in a reserve effort.

Both teams will be back in conference action on Saturday afternoon. Rivier will host Emmanuel College in a 1pm tip-off while the Wildcats travel to Suffolk University for a 1pm start.
