Women's Basketball: Hamel picks up another double-double in OT loss to Anna Maria

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered a tough 76-74 overtime loss to visiting Anna Maria College in a thrilling Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening on the floor at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The loss sends the Raiders to a 1-10 overall record with a 0-2 conference mark while the AMCATS improve to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC.

Senior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) scored a team-high 20 points to lead Rivier with classmate Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) registering a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) also shined bright as she netted 15 points, including shooting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and junior Jackelyn Robarge (Belmont, N.H.) finished with 11 points in the setback.

Anna Maria tied the game as time expired in the second half in part to an inbound play that saw sophomore Amber Wilson (New York, N.Y.) collect the pass and get the shot off before the red lights went off. Wilson finished the night with a game-high 25 points off the bench for the AMCATS and junior Sierra Johnson (Brockton, Mass.) added 18 points. Both sophomore Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, Mass.) and graduate Johanna Burke (Oxford, Mass.) collected double-digit rebounds with 13 and 10, respectively.

Both teams will return to conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will travel to Albertus Manugs College for a 1pm tip while the AMCATS host Emmanuel College at 12pm.
