Women's Basketball: Raiders drop non-conference contest with Colby

(Nashua, N.H.) The first semester portion of the schedule came to a close this afternoon as the Rivier University Women's Basketball team fell to visiting Colby College, 71-45 in a non-conference contest held inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders now stand at 1-8 on the young season while the Mules improve to 5-3.

Senior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) had another outstanding afternoon as the veteran guard totaled the game-high of 29 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor and an impressive 14-for-16 from the line. Classmate Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) pulled down 11 rebounds while netting four points and junior Elizabeth Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with four points and six rebounds of her own in the loss.

The Colby offense was paced by junior Paige Russell (Alexandria, Va.) who came off the bench to shoot 5-for-9 from the floor on her way to a team-high 16 points. Senior Emily Davis (Sudbury, Mass.) also reached double-figures as she totaled 14 points and junior Ainsley Burns (Barrington, R.I.) finished one point shy of a double-double at nine points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Keagan Dubar (Middlebury, Vt.) and junior Jane MacKerron (New York, N.Y.) also added eight points each in the win.

Rivier will not return to action until 2019 as they open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a January 8th contest at Suffolk University. Colby, meanwhile, will travel to California for their next schedule game at Claremont Mudd Scripts in Claremont, Calif. on Saturday, December 29th.
