Women's Basketball: Hamel nets double-double in 72-70 loss to UMPI

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team dropped a non-conference contest with visiting University of Maine-Presque Isle this evening, 72-72 inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The loss is just the second of the young season for the Raiders, who are now 0-2, while the Owls improve to 1-0.

Senior Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) registered her first double-double of the season as she led the team with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Classmate Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) knocked down 8-of-19 from the floor on her way to 23 points and junior Jackelyn Robarge (Belmont, N.H.) shot 3-for-4 from beyond the arc on her way to finishing with 14 points. Junior Elizabeth Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with six points in the loss.

UMPI was guided by the 20-point, 10-rebound effort from Rhylee Wright – who shot 7-of-12 from the floor. Hunter Mercier added 16 points in a reserve effort while Sara Musselman recorded 13 points in the season-opener for the Owls.

Rivier will matchup with in-state foe Plymouth State University on Thursday evening in the annual "Boys and Girls Club Classic" hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H. Game time is set for 6pm. UMPI will be back on the court tomorrow at 1pm as they travel to Fisher College.
