Women's Basketball: Perry, Kacavas lead Rivier over Simmons in OT

(Boston, Mass.) It took an extra five minutes of action but the Rivier University Women's Basketball team held on for a tough-fought 72-65 Great Northeast Athletic Conference win at Simmons College this evening in Boston. The win is an important one as the Raiders are now 7-8 in the GNAC North – 10-13 overall – solidifying a spot in the upcoming conference tournament. Simmons, meanwhile, falls to 6-14 overall and 5-9 in the GNAC.

The Raiders were supported by senior Caitlyn Perry's (Nashua, N.H.) game-high 28 points. Perry shot 11-for-26 from the field while dishing out six assists. Sophomore Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) chipped in with 23 points and senior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) pulled down 12 defensive rebounds as Rivier earned their seventh win in the past nine games. Sophomore Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) continues her rise to dominance as she collected nine rebounds in a reserve effort.

Simmons' Ashley McAdams came off the bench to lead the Sharks with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Liz Brasa connected on 6-of-12 on her way to 15 points and Jamie Zoldy added 10 points in the loss.

Rivier will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Anna Maria College for a 3pm GNAC tip-off. Simmons will return to the court on Thursday night as they get set to host Clark University.
