Women's Basketball: Perry returns with 21 point night; Raiders upend Sharks 74-57

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team took care of business on home court this evening as they scored the first basket of the game and never looked back on their way to a 74-57 victory over visiting Simmons College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. The Raiders, winners in four of their last five, are now 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference while the Sharks slipped to 6-12 and 5-6 in the GNAC.

Rivier, for the first time all season, was able to win each quarter as they went 17-7 (1Q), 15-13 (2Q), 18-15 (3Q) and 24-22 (4Q) for the 74-57 final.

Senior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) returned to action tonight with a team-high 21 point night as she shot 7-for-18 from the floor with five rebounds. Classmate Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) registered her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds while fellow senior Caitlin Bulger (Quincy, Mass.) dropped in 16 points. Sophomore Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) played an important role off the bench as she collected a team-high 12 rebounds in only 19 minutes of action. Senior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) swatted away five Simmons shots while adding seven points and eight rebounds.

The Simmons offensive effort was guided by sophomore Francesca Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) who led the team with 15 points while connecting on 3-of-9 from beyond the arc. Senior Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds along with classmate Ashley McAdams (Freeport, N.Y.) who also had eight rebounds on the night.

Up next for the Raiders will be another conference battle as they host Lasell College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. Simmons will also return to action on Saturday with a GNAC matchup on the road at Albertus Magnus College.
