Women's Basketball stumbles in GNAC opener at Norwich

(Northfield, Vermont) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference play this evening as they fell to Norwich University, 63-49. The Raiders are now just 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the GNAC. The Cadets, meanwhile, improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference competition.

Sophomore Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led the Rivier offensive attack with 16 points and senior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) added 11 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Senior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) also had a solid evening with 15 points, including hitting three three-pointers in the contest.

Norwich was led by senior Kayla Mercer (New Britain, Conn.) who racked up 15 points and 14 rebounds. Classmate Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) cashed in with a team-leading 18 points and junior Arianna Harrison (Vernon, Vt.) also eclipsed double-digit points as she finished with 12 and dished out seven assists.

Rivier will return to the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium as they will host Anna Maria College in a GNAC tilt on Saturday (12/3) afternoon. Game time is set for 1pm.
