Women's Basketball falls to Salem State at home, 72-61

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered just their second home loss of the season this evening as they dropped a non-conference contest to Salem State University, 72-61. The Raiders dip below .500 with an 8-9 overall record while the Vikings improve to 6-13 on the season.

Rivier freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) had yet another 20+ point game as she recorded the game high of 23 points on 9-of-18 from the floor. Junior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while classmate Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with 15 points and five assists. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) provided defensive help with seven steals.

For Salem State, they were paced by sophomore Katie Lipka (Peabody, Mass.). Lipka led the team with 19 points in a reserve effort – including hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Freshman Tyra Scott (Methuen, Mass.) pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with her 14 points for a double-double effort. Junior Kaitlyn Byran (Lowell, Mass.) also added 15 points and seven rebounds in the win for the Vikings.

Rivier will look to even their overall record as they travel to Pine Manor College for another non-conference contest on Thursday night. Salem State will remain on the road as they are in Framingham, Mass. for a MASCAC game against Framingham State on Saturday afternoon.
