Softball: Raiders swept by Emmanuel, 7-3 & 8-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Softball dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests this evening to visiting Emmanuel College, 7-3 & 8-0 at Raider Diamond. The losses send the Raiders' overall record to 8-16 with a 3-6 mark in the conference while the Saints improve to 12-11, 5-5 GNAC.

Game One: Emmanuel College 7, Rivier University 3 (FINAL)

The Raider offense was limited to just two hits as the Saints took the opening game, 7-3. Freshman Kellie Kennedy (Hudson, N.H.) went 1-for-3 with a RBI and sophomore Tayla LeGrand (Tewksbury, Mass.) added her own 1-for-3 night to account for all of the offense.

Sophomore Taylor Rowsell (Chelmsford, Mass.) suffered the loss inside the circle as she allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits while striking out nine. Junior Kerri Hegarty (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished the game as she gave up a run on three hits in the seventh.

Emmanuel's Megan Kieselback spun the complete game two-hitter as she struck out eight, walked four and allowed three runs over her seven innings of work. Ashley Skey knocked home two RBI as she went 2-for-4 in the opener while Olivia Burgos recorded a three-hit game going 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Audrey Esakoff also went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the win.

Game Two: Emmanuel College 8, Rivier University 0 (FINAL)

The final game of the night belonged to the Saints as they plated four runs in the first inning to ultimately earn the 8-0 win and double-header sweep of the Raiders.

Senior Evelyn Susko (Hudson, N.H.) was the offensive star for Rivier as she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Juniors Mikayla Ramsdell (Salem, N.H.) and Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) also recorded hits for the Raiders. Kennedy suffered the loss as she gave up seven runs (five earned) on 12 hits while striking out five. Hegarty spun the final frame allowing a run on four hits.

Burgos tossed the complete game shutout for Emmanuel as she limited Rivier to just five hits while striking out 10 over her seven innings of work. Skey went 3-for-4 with a RBI at the plate to pace the offense and Casey Sheehan knocked home a pair on her 2-for-4 nightcap. Megan Price also went 2-for-4 with a RBI in the finale.

Rivier will return to the field tomorrow afternoon as they travel to East Boston, Mass. for a GNAC twinbill against Suffolk University. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm. Emmanuel will also travel to East Boston for their next contest which will be on Saturday, April 14th against Suffolk.
