(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Softball team dropped both games in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header at Rivier versus University of Saint Joseph (CT), 6-1 and 8-0 tonight. The Raiders are now 8-16 overall, 3-11 GNAC, while the Blue Jays are now 22-6, 12-2 GNAC.
Game One: University of Saint Joseph 6, Rivier University 1 (Final)
The Raiders knocked in a run in the 6th with Shaylyn Freitas (JR, Pelham, NH) connecting to score Tori Dugan (SO, Norwalk, CT).
For the visitors, Patti Sciglimpaglia (SR, Norwalk, CT) hit a home run in the 1st to open the scoring. Mary Sciglimpaglia (SR, Norwalk, CT) got a hit to drive in Sarah Ercoli (SO, Plainville, CT) in the 5th inning. The Blue Jays pushed three across the plate in the 6th inning with Ercoli, Rachel Dube (FR, Southington, CT), and Ashley Rzeszewski (FR, Eynon, PA) all scoring. Saint Joseph's final run was in the top of the 7th with Emily Vigue (SR, Lebanon, CT) scoring Ashley Tucker (JR, Middletown, CT) with a hit.
Jess Shanahan (SR, Merrimack, NH) took the loss for the Raiders. Patti Sciglimpaglia (SR, Norwalk, CT) got the win for the Blue Jays.
Game Two: University of Saint Joseph 8, Rivier University 0 (Final)
In the final game of the evening, the Raiders fell 8-0. Tori Dugan (SO, Norwalk, CT) was 1 out of 3 at the plate and Shanahan was 1 out of 2.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the 3rd inning when Ercoli knocked in Dube. P. Sciglimpaglia got a hit and scored Rzeszewski and Ercoli. In the 6th, Saint Joseph added on. Dube knocked in Kara Klimaszewski (FR, Naugatuck, CT). Rzeszewski scored Tucker. Morgan Skoly (FR, Vernon, CT) hit to knock in Vigue. And Ercoli connected to score both Dube and Rzeszewski.
Taylor Miller (SR, Haverhill, MA) and Kerri Hegarty (FR, Tewksbury, MA) pitched for the Raiders. Miller took the loss. P. Sciglimpaglia and Vigue combined to pitch the win for the Blue Jays.
Rivier travels to Lasell College for a GNAC Double-Header on April 23rd. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm. University of Saint Joseph returns to action versus Wesleyan University in an away tilt with the game time slated for 5:00 pm on April 21st.
