Men's Cross Country: Jagtap, Raiders compete at Runnin' Monks Invitational

(Standish, Maine) Saint Joseph's College of Maine hosted the 2018 Runnin' Monks Invitational and the Rivier University Raiders placed ninth in the men's 8K and tenth in the women's 5K at the SJC Cross Country Course on Saturday.


THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
With all five scoring runners in the top 12 overall, Colby-Sawyer College cruised to the men's title with 32 points, well ahead of runner-up Emmanuel College, which capped the day with 66 points.

Colby-Sawyer junior Peter Bakker (Barkhamsted, Conn.) claimed the individual crown after touring the 8K course in 27:52 minutes, nearly 20 seconds in front of Thomas College junior Jarrod Ottman (Merrimack, N.H.), who finished second with a 28:11 performance.

FOR THE RAIDERS:
• Junior Yash Jagtap (North Andover, Mass.) finished 42nd overall, placed 40th (33:31.8)
• Sophomore Patrick Meyers (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) placed 53rd (39:19.4)
• Sophomore Cody Brien (Hillsborough, N.H.) placed 55th (42:02.3)
• Freshman Jacob Santiago (Manchester, N.H.) placed 57th (53:26.1)
• Freshman Jalen Watson (Woonsocket, R.I.) placed 58th (53:26.7)

 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
With the top two runners and four in the top 14 overall, Emmanuel College topped the women's field with 53 points, 25 ahead of runner-up University of Southern Maine.

Emmanuel sophomore Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) led the 98-runner field with a 20:21 time while her teammate, freshman Hannah Fitzpatrick (Revere, Mass.) finished second with a 20:35 performance.

FOR THE RAIDERS:
• Junior Elizabeth Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) paced the Raiders with a 23:05.2 time and finished 30th overall.
• Sophomore Lauren Ferentino (Hudson, N.H.) posted a 27:09.1 effort and placed 59th
• Freshman Bridget Varnum (Amston, Conn.) was 60th with a 27:58.2 performance
• Sophomore Amelia Bassett (Derry, N.H.) placed 62nd (28.48.4)
• Freshman Madaline Grenier (Hudson, N.H.) placed 64th (30:12.3)

Rivier will compete in the Suffolk University Invitational next Friday evening at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
