Men’s Volleyball Drops Three Straight Sets to MIT in Season Opener

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier men's volleyball team made their first appearance in over a year this evening, falling to non-conference opponent MIT in three straight sets.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/22/2022

- Score: MIT 3, Rivier 0: Set scores (23-25, 24-26, 18-25)

- Records: MIT (3-0), Rivier (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders would jump out to a lead in both of the first sets. But errors would allow the Engineers to go on a few runs to get back into each set. Overall, the Raiders had 21 errors to MIT's 10.

- Rivier beat the Engineers out in kills (34-32), assists (32-31), and digs (27-23) this evening. David Smith (Clinton, OH) and Jack Normandin (Clifton Park, NY) put together solid performances. Smith had a game high 15 kills, with Normandin just one shy at 14.   

- MIT had two past the 10 kill mark as well in Jack Yurkanin and Grant Oh. Yurkanin had 14 kills, and Oh had 10.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kill %: MIT .293, Rivier .159

-  Blocks: MIT 19, Rivier 11

-  Service Aces: MIT 4, Rivier 2

UP NEXT:

- Rivier men's volleyball will be back on Thursday the 27th, when they travel to Elms College to start GNAC play. Game time is currently set for 7:30 PM.
