Men's Volleyball: Springfield edges out a 3-1 victory over the Raiders

(Nashua, N.H.) It was a clash of two of the most competitive Division III Men's Volleyball Programs in the region. No. 1 ranked Springfield College Pride faced off against the defending GNAC Champions, Rivier University Raiders in today's first match of a 3 match series.  The first set proved to be the Raiders best as they shocked the visitors with a 25-18 win.  The remaining matches ended with 25-16, 25-22 and 25-21 losses.  

Springfield's offense was relentless as freshman Brennan Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) tallied 15 kills and hit at .333. Sophomore Eli Gabriel Irizarry Pares (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) dished out 38 assists, 6 kills and 3 digs, while his elder brother, senior Eli Irizarry Pares (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) tallied 11 kills and 7 digs.  Junior Johjan Mussa Robles (Caguas, Puerto Rico) pulled out an impressive 14 digs and 5 assists on the match.

Rivier University proved to have steady defense as freshman Jack Hromada (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) pulled out 7 digs, while junior Cam Roth's (Coventry, R.I.) tenatious defense kept transition alive pulling out 9 digs and 3 blocks and knocking down 7 kills.  Junior David Smith (Clinton, O.H.) had 3 digs and 2 blocks and a team high 14 kills finishing the match at 16.5 points.  

Junior Pedro Campos (Downey, Calif) handed out an astounding 45 assists.  Campos currently leads the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference in assists per set at 9.95.

After today's trimatch, Rivier University will travel down to Springfield College to seek retribution on Tuesday, February 26th at 7PM.
