Men's Volleyball: Raiders power past both Regis & Wentworth in straight sets

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball remained undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as they swept both Regis College and Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon in a conference tri-match hosted at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders, who swept the season series against the two schools, are now 18-6 overall and 9-0 against GNAC competition. Wentworth defeated Regis in the middle match 3-1, move to 19-8 overall (9-2 GNAC) while the Pride fall to 6-11, 1-6 GNAC.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Regis College 0 (FINAL)

Rivier dispatched Regis pretty easily in the opening match as they won by set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-22.

Sophomore David Smith (Clinton, Ohio) powered the Raider offense as he hammered down 14 kills and registered a .409 hitting percentage. Junior Dashaun Graham (Highland Falls, N.Y.) chipped in with a .500 hitting percentage on eight hills and three total blocks. Senior setter Garrett Bucklin (Jamestown, R.I.) directed the offense to a .387 hitting percentage with 38 assists and junior libero Dahnny Rogers (Penfield, N.Y.) collected a team-high eight digs. Seniors Matt Heckler (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) each added six kills in the win.

Regis was guided by Brett Krahl, who had seven kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Drew Beimel added six kills and matched Rogers with a game-high eight digs. Sebastian Valdes dished out 17 assists in the loss.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Wentworth Institute of Technology 0 (FINAL)

In a battle of the top two teams in the conference, the Raiders emerged victorious in straight sets as they won by set scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-19.

Andler was the offensive power in the finale as he had a .769 hitting percentage on 10 kills and a block solo. Smith was just as impressive with a team-high 11 kills and Graham added seven kills. Bucklin totaled 33 assists as the team hit an impressive .458 in the three set match.

Wentworth was paced by Xhuljo Zyba's eight kills while Collin Ritter provided additional help with seven kills and 17 assists. Ryan Love patrolled the back line with six digs in the loss.

Next up for the Raiders will be a road GNAC contest at Lasell College on Tuesday evening. Regis will host Cal Lutheran on Monday night for their next scheduled contest and Wentworth will entertain Cal Lutheran on Tuesday night.
