Raiders sweep Marymount 3-0

Raiders sweep Marymount 3-0

(Union, N.J.) The Rivier Men's Volleyball team swept Marymount University 3-0 in their second game at the Kean University Invitational. With the win, the Raiders improve their record to 3-2. With the loss, Marymount drops to 2-7.

The Saints played No. 8 Rivier extremely well on Saturday morning, despite the 3-0 final (22-25, 22-25, 21-25).

Wiechecki and Johannson again came alive with the hot hands for the Saints, smacking nine kills apiece in the morning match-up.  Ksiazkiewicz added seven kills and a .316 hitting percentage.

While the first two sets saw Marymount overcome early deficits and finish strong, the third set proved quite the point-for-point affair.  Point for point, the Saints battled the Raiders to a 21-21 deadlock, but a four-point rally from Rivier turned Marymount away and completed the shut-out.

Rivier had good performances turned in by Chris Markuson (Cupertino, Calif.) who was able to record a team-high 14 kills for the Raiders. Matt Tutino (Manorville, N.Y.) registered 11 kills while teammate Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied 34 assists.

Marymount had good performances turned in by Albert Johansson (Vasterljung, Sweden) and TJ Wiechecki (Wilmington, Del.) who were each able to record 9 kills. Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz (Des Plaines, Ill.) recorded an additional 7 kills while Erich Bratke (Virginia Beach, Va.) tallied 30 assists.
