Men's Volleyball remains GNAC perfect with three set win at Emerson

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball program moved another step closer to securing the overall #1 spot in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament this evening as the swept Emerson College, 3-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-16. The win improves the Raiders record to 26-5 on the year and a perfect 14-0 in the GNAC. Emerson slips to 10-13 in 2014 and now own a 5-9 GNAC mark.

Senior Terence Matatall (Danville, NH) paced the offensive attack with 11 kills and a .588 hitting percentage while junior Chris Markuson (Cupertino, California) added 10 kills in the three set win. Markuson was also stellar along the back line as he tied freshman Tyler Blank (Rochester, NY) for the team lead with 7 digs. Blank meanwhile directed the offense with 40 assists. Senior Aaron Almario (Alhambria, California) provided a .444 hitting percentage and six kills for Rivier.

Emerson was led by Jackson Wiley who matched Matatall for the game high with 11 kills. Brendan McGonigle registered 14 assists and 5 digs while Jared Gross also recorded five digs in the loss.

Rivier will wrap-up the 2014 regular season with a GNAC Tri-Match this Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. They will take on the host Leopards at 11am before battling Anna Maria in the season finale at 1pm.
