#1 Men's Volleyball dispatches Wentworth in four sets

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball team took the home court for the first time as the #1 team in the NCAA Division III and did not disappoint as the Raiders earned their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference game of the season with a 3-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology this evening at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Raiders continued their winning streak over GNAC opponents to 35 straight games with a 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 win tonight.

Junior Chris Markuson (Cupertino, California) led the attack for Rivier as he laced 15 kills and registered a remarkable .636 hitting percentage. Senior Aaron Almario (Alhambria, California) added 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage while junior Cam Phegley-Walker (Los Angeles, California) had a solid night with 7 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Tyler Blank (Rochester, NY) added 42 assists to his terrific start to 2014 and senior libero Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY) was the defensive star with 11 digs.

Wentworth saw both Jake Reed and Alex Potts reach the double-digit mark in kills as they had 13 and 11, respectively. Potts finished the night with a .556 hitting percentage. Ross Burdett added 8 kills in the loss with Collin Ritter recording 38 assists. Zach Newhouse had the team high of 7 digs.

With the win, the Raiders improve to 5-0 overall on the season with a pair of games on the horizon with #3 New Paltz and #2 Springfield College this weekend at the Springfield Invitational. Wentworth, who suffered their first loss, are now 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Leopards will host MIT and CCNY this Saturday in a non-conference tri-match.
