Rivier's Almario selected as the AVCA National Player of the Week

(Lexington, Kentucky) The American Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Imports has recently announced that Rivier University Senior Aaron Almario has been selected as the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week.

The following is what is written on the AVCA Webstie:

Aaron Almario, a 6-7 senior middle blocker for No. 8 Rivier has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. It was quite a week for the Raiders, recording wins over two teams in the top-5 of the latest AVCA Coaches Poll with Almario in the middle of the action. They wasted no time in getting their season going against the defending champions and No. 1 ranked Springfield Pride, winning in four sets. It was the first time in program history they defeated a top-ranked team and Springfield. In that match, Almario recorded 12 kills, hit .526 and notched three digs and five blocks. After defeating Newbury, Rivier pulled off another upset, this time against No. 5 Baruch in five, with the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week smashing 12 kills on .333 hitting with two digs and seven blocks. Capping the weekend with a win over Endicott, Almario averaged 2.42 kills, 1.50 blocks and 3.54 points per set while hitting at a .423 clip for the week to lead his team to a perfect 4-0 start.

This is the 13th time in program history a Rivier student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, and the second for Almario, who previously took home the honor on April 9th of last year. The Raiders are coached by Craig Kolek.
