Men's Volleyball improves to 2-0 behind Phegley-Walker's 13 kills

(Nashua, New Hampshire) Just a few hours removed from snapping #1 Springfield College's 30 game win streak against NCAA Division III opponents, the Rivier University Men's Volleyball team finished the day with two victories with a 3-1 win over Newbury College by scores of 25-17, 24-26, 25-12 and 25-12 in the fourth and final game of day one at the 2014 Live Free or Die Invitational.

Junior Cam Phegley-Walker (Los Angeles, CA) led the way for the Raiders as he registered a .435 hitting percentage with 13 kills and 10 service aces. Fellow juniors Matt Tutino (Manorville, NY) and Brendan Tutino (Manorville, NY) added 8 kills and 7 kills, respectively, in the win. Freshmen Matthew Ortiz (Los Angeles, CA) and Matthew LaSance (Madison, CT) each recorded 21 assists with sophomore Mike Hovnanian (Methuen, MA) providing the defensive effort with 7 digs to go along with his 9 kills. Sophomore Nick Ochoa (Whittier, CA) also finished with 6 digs for Rivier.

Newbury got 10 kills from senior Jake Powell (Salinas, CA) and another 5 from freshman Billy Stephen in their first four set game of the young season. Junior Chi Yin Li (Framingham, MA) was the game's assist leader as he assisted on 24 of the team's 27 kills.

Both teams will return to action tomorrow in the final day of the 2014 Live Free or Die Invitational as the Raiders will host #5 Baruch College in first game inside the Muldoon Gymnasium at 10am. Newbury will make the trip across town to Daniel Webster where they take on the Eagles at 10am.
