#10 Raiders take two at NJCU Tournament

(Jersey City, NJ) #10 Rivier College cruised past their two opponents on Saturday only dropping one set to finish off their tournament at New Jersey City University.

The first match-up of the day pitted the Raiders (13-6 Overall) against the host of the tournament, the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (10-11 Overall). The game for the Raiders was mostly dominated by the strong play once again by freshman Chris Markuson (Cupertino, CA) who recorded 14 kills and had 18.5 points overall. Senior Andrew Corwin (Framingham, MA) played a strong role defensively as he had 10 digs in the game.

The Gothic Knights stand-out performer on the day came from freshman Besemir Arslani (Wayne, NJ) who had a total of 10 kills and 8 digs playing leading roles in both offence and defense.

The second game of the day pitted the Raiders against #11 Vassar College whom they topped in 4 sets. The Raiders were led by multi-time GNAC player of the week sophomore Aaron Almario (Alhambra, CA) who had 14 kills, 18 overall points, and had a kill percentage of .500. For the Brewers (9-7 Overall) they were held by the strong defensive showing of junior Christian La Du (Westhampton, NY) who compiled an even 20 digs on the afternoon.

Rivier College will be returning home for their next game after an extended road trip to take on Lasell Tuesday(3/20) at 7:00pm in the Doon for some GNAC action.
