Rivier Volleyball Alumni Reunite and Meet New Family Members

Nashua, NH - The Rivier College volleyball program held it's annual Family Weekend and welcomed back more than 100 former players, family members and friends for its yearly gathering and men's alumni game.

The event kicked off on Friday, February 4th at the Muldoon Fitness Center as the alumni witnessed the current Riv squad defeat the GNAC rival Emmanuel College Saints 3-1 in a tough match between the top two teams in the conference.  The alumni led the crowd and cheered on this years team to victory.

The weekend continued on Saturday at a lunch gathering where alumni, family and friends gathered with the current Rivier men's and women's volleyball teams to tell what it means to part of the Rivier volleyball family and what the lasting friendships have meant to both former and current players.  The lunch was capped off by the unveiling of a new Rivier Volleyball Trophy.  The trophy is a symbol of both the men's and women's volleyball programs success and will show each championship, from both teams, on one unified trophy.  Head Coach Craig Kolek asked the group to help name the trophy and ballets were handed out.  The name Rivier Volleyball Champions Chalice was the unanimous winner and with the trophy named it was time for the annual men's volleyball alumni game.

The game itself is always a highlight of the weekend, with former players providing the trash talk and trying to prove they still "have what it takes" to beat the young Raider squad.  14 players suited up for the alumni, but unfortunately the undergraduate squad came out on top.  The current group of players won 4 out of 5 games against the alumni to hold bragging rights until next season.  This is the third straight season the undergraduate team has taken the title, but they will have their work cut out for them next season as 3 more seniors will join the ranks of the alumni to help bring the undergraduate winning streak to an end.
