Men's Soccer: Raiders tripped up by Albertus on Senior Night

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team suffered a Great Northeast Athletic Conference loss this evening to visiting Albertus Magnus College, 3-0 under the lights at Raider Field. The loss hands the Raiders an overall record of 0-14-3 with a 0-10-1 mark against the conference while the Falcons improve to 6-5-4 overall, 5-2-4 GNAC.

Albertus would capitalize early in the first half when junior Matt Cotto (Stratford, Conn.) followed his own shot, collected the rebound and placed into the back of the net for his 3rd goal of the season and it gave the Falcons a 1-0 halftime lead.

During the halftime intermission, the Rivier Men's Soccer program honored their departing seniors – Sam Holdsworth (Pelham, N.H.), Carlo Eideh (Salem, N.H.) and Matt Heckler (Simi Valley, Calif.) – with a small ceremony.

Albertus sealed the game in the second half as junior Diogo Cruz (Naugatuck, Conn.) and sophomore Abdoul Aremu (West Haven, Conn.) each scored a goal to account for all the scoring.

Rivier freshman Nicholas Hasenfus (Attleboro, Mass.) made seven saves on the evening and classmate Cody Richards (Colebrook, N.H.) stopped all three shots he saw over the final 21 minutes. Albertus Magnus senior kepper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) recorded the clean sheet victory with two saves before being relieved by classmate John Brunetti (West Haven, Conn.).

The Raiders will finish out the 2018 season with a home game on Monday night against Lesley University. Game time is set for 7pm. Albertus Magnus will also be in non-conference action on Monday night as they host Westfield State University in a 7pm kickoff.
