Men's Soccer: Raiders fall at home to Norwich University, 4-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team fell this afternoon to visiting Norwich University, 4-0 at Raider Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss pushes the Raiders overall record to 0-8 on the season with a 0-4 mark in the conference while the Cadets improve to 6-0-3, 3-0-1 GNAC.

Norwich scored back-to-back goals within a minute apart as sophomore Matt Mazzola (Ridgefield, Conn.) netted his 1st of the season in the 14th minute followed by freshman Beinfait Badibanga (Burlington, Vt.), who knocked home his 5th of the year in the 15th minute.

That would be all the scoring in the first half as the Raiders fought off offensive pressure over the final 20 minutes of the opening stanza.

Norwich would increase the lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute when Badibanga notched his second goal of the game off a pass from sophomore Andre Rodriguez (Wallingford, Conn.). Badibanga then completed the Hat-Trick in the 63rd minute with an unassisted tally to account for all of the Cadet offense.

Rivier junior goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made five saves on the afternoon before being relieved by freshman Cody Richards (Colebrook, N.H.) who stopped the only shot he faced. . Norwich senior keepers Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Millbury, Mass.) did not see a shot on net as the Cadets outshot Rivier, 17-0 (10-0 SOG).

The Raiders will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Colby-Sawyer College in a 12pm kickoff at Raider Field. Norwich will be back on the pitch this Friday afternoon as they host the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 3pm.
