Men's Soccer: Atwood, Raiders stumble in loss to Pine Manor

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team allowed three unanswered goals as they dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Pine Manor College, 3-1 under the lights at Raider Field. The loss pushes the Raiders' overall record to 0-7 while the Gators improve to 5-1 on the season.

Rivier struck quickly as junior Ramon Bonfante (Lowell, Mass.) knocked home a pass from sophomore Pedro Lopez (Methuen, Mass.) in the 32nd minute to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Bonfante's goal would hold up until just after halftime as the Gators came out aggressively. Pine Manor senior Jose Corrales (El Paso, Texas) tied the game in the 51st minute with an assist credited to sophomore Carlos Alvarez (El Paso, Texas). The game would remain tied over the next 20 minutes of action until freshman Elmer Pineda (Santa Rosa, Calif.) gave the visitors the lead with his goal in the 73rd minute. Corrales would then add a late insurance goal in the 83rd minute for the 3-1 final.

Rivier junior goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made three saves on the night while Pine Manor freshman Marco Valencia (Santa Rosa, Calif.) stopped one of two shots he faced.

Next up for the Raiders will be a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening as they host Norwich University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30pm. Pine Manor will also return to action on Wednesday as they host Framingham State University at 4pm.
