Men's Soccer: Raiders kickoff 2017 season in Maine

(Farmington, Maine) The 2017 Rivier University Men's Soccer season kicked off this afternoon under new Head Coach Hayden Barbosa against the University of Maine-Farmington. The Raiders surrendered a late second half goal to fall to the Beavers, 1-0 in the season-opener for both squads.

Sophomore keeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) did not lose a beat after last year's stellar campaign as he made six saves on seven shots. UMF's Matt Wilson stopped all three shots he face on net for the clean sheet win.

Despite being outshot 19-4 though out the game, the Raiders maintained a scoreless affair until the 74th minute. The Beavers' Luke Dwornik was able to sneak home a pass from Nick Marshall for the games only tally.

The Raiders had an opportunity in the 83rd minute but the shot from freshman Pedro Lopez (Methuen, Mass.) sailed high over the net.

It's a quick turnaround for Rivier as they will travel to Boston, Mass. tomorrow afternoon for another non-conference contest, this time it'll be against Wheelock College.
