Gambeski nets OT winner to lift Men's Soccer past Lesley, 2-1

(Cambridge, Mass.) Senior Kyle Gambeski (Bedford, N.H.) buried a penalty kick with 26 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the Rivier University Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 win over Lesley University in a non-conference contest this afternoon at Edward Field.

Gambeski converted on the PK after Lesley was called for a foul inside their own 18 on a corner kick opportunity. The veteran captain proceeded to place his shot to the lower left side for the game-winner.

The win pushes the Raiders over the .500 mark with a 5-4-1 overall record. The Lynx fall to 1-8-1 as they played in their fourth overtime game of the year.

Sophomore Christopher Buzan (Dunstable, Mass.) connected on a leaping header off a corner kick from senior Alex Armstrong (Wakefield, R.I.) at 22:01 in the first half to spring Rivier to a 1-0 lead.

Lesley tied the game in the 2nd half when Nuno Pereira (Dorchester, Mass.) worked a perfect give-and-go with Angel Ruiz (Phoenix, Ariz.) into the left side of the box where Pereira navigated around Rivier freshman goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) and placed it in the back of the net in the 61st minute.

The Raiders – winners of 3 in their last 5 games – will return to action on Wednesday evening with a non-conference trip to Clark University. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
