Men's Lacrosse: Raiders suffer first loss of the season to Monks, 13-7.

(Nashua, N.H.)  Both programs came in today with a 5 game winning streak.  However it was the Raiders who were stopped in their tracks by the Monks who are now 7-2 overall giving the Raiders their first loss.  Tonight the Raiders are 5-1 overall. 

Scoring started at the 12:25 mark when senior Steve Reyes-Pineda (Revere, Mass) slotted one off of a Michael Finn assist.  The Monks struck 2 more times, until sophomore Dylan McSparren (Warwick, R.I.) opened up the scoring for the Raiders with an unassisted goal.  Thirty seconds later senior Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass) put one in off a sophomore Shane Puleo (Nashua, N.H.) assist. 

Senior Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.) broke through with 5 minutes remaining in the first period during a man-up situation.  This is the 19th goal of the season for Guinasso.  Senior Chris Pennie (Wilmington, Mass.) earned the assist.  Pennie currently leads the Raiders in assists with 15 and is currently second in the conference in that catergory.

McSparren notched the first goal in the second period 30 seconds into the second period off a lay off from freshman Nick Ackerman (Durham, N.H.).  The Raiders didn't get back onto the board until the 3rd period edging the visitors out by scoring 2 of the 3 goals in the period.  The goals were tallied by senior Rob Fullerton (Wilmington, Mass) and McSparren.  Seperating the 2 goals was a point earned by Michael Finn, the assist was credited to Shane Puleo. 

McSparren and senior captain Colby Larsen (Windham, N.H.) closed out the scoring for the home team.  

Despite the loss, the Raiders are doing well on the leader boards.  Among the top 10 scorers in the conference, 4 of them are Raiders; Guinasso, Larsen, McSparren and Fullerton.  

Pennie, Fullerton, McSparren and Ackerman can be found among the top 11 in assists. 

After tonights performance, goalkeeper Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.), is on top of the leader board in save percent at 66.1 after denying 20 scoring opportunities for the Monks. 

The Monks will host thier next conferece match up against the Pride of Regis College (2-3 overall, 0-2 GNAC) this Saturday at 1PM in Standish, Maine.  The Raiders will take a short trip down to Newton, Massachusetts to faceoff against, Lasell College Lasers(7-1 overall, 2-0 GNAC) at noon.
